Perfect day with J pod!
The IE3 found whales up near Point Roberts today! It was an amazing day full of sunshine and fun whales! Stay tuned for more from our naturalist!
Our journey began as we made our way toward the east side of Guemes Island. We found three bald eagles perched high in the trees. We continued north and found a number of harbor seals and lots of harbor porpoise. We had reports of J-pod in Canada. We caught up with them just on the north side of Active Pass. The first group of whales we saw Polaris and her new calf J46. The calf was having fun and quickly hitting the surface! The next whale that came over for a visit was Tsuchi. She gave us an amazingly beautiful breach right in front of Mt. Baker! We got a good look at another mother and baby. And Cookie gave us a quick "swim-by" as well. As we left scene, we saw Blackberry and Mako. Mako even breach a couple of times for us! We headed back toward the dock and an immature bald eagle flew right over the boat. This time we went on the west side of Patos, Sucia and Matia Islands. Captain Michael lined up the Patos Island Lighthouse just perfectly with Mt. Baker. It was simply a picturesque day on the water!
