A bald eagle brings in a fish to feed the young

The eaglet gets fed.

We started today's trip with a bald eagle sighting before we left the dock, and then we spotted another one on Guemes Island. We couldn't stop for long because we knew we had a long way to travel to find orcas today. The orcas were swimming southward from Canada toward Point Roberts. By the time we reached them they were at Point Roberts. It was L-pod and they were spread out over miles. The first orcas we watched were L83, Moonlight, and her son L110, Midnight. They gave us some great views as we paralleled them. We also saw other orcas swimming in the same direction as our original two. We saw some breaches and spyhops as we watched. L91, Muncher also appeared to be in this group. We moved off to visit some other orcas and eventually Moonlight and Midnight came back over to visit us again. They appeared to be chasing fish because of all the changing of directions they were doing. Even 3 year old Midnight looked like he was chasing a fish at the surface. After we said goodbye to the orcas we spotted several very cooperative harbor porpoises. As a great finale, just fifteen minutes before we reached our dock, we stopped to look at a bald eagle perched in a tree. Just after we arrived this eagle's mate flew in with a fish and and we watched as he/she fed a juvenile eagle that was hidden in the trees. What a great way to end a beautiful day on the water.
