J-pod off Point Roberts
J19, Shachi comes over for a visit.
J26, Mike, was the star of the show today.
J16, Slick, J36, Alki, and J42, Echo.
A harbor seal mom and pup.Today we had a very similar trip to yesterday's. We had to go north, and we ended up finding the orcas at Point Roberts again today. This time we spotted J-pod. It was obvious that these orcas were chasing fish around as soon as we arrived. The first two orcas we spotted were J19, Shachi, and J41, Eclipse. We watched them for a while and they gave us some great looks. Next we cruised over to look at another group swimming our way. It was J16, Slick, J26, Mike, J33, Keet, J36 Alki, and J42 Echo. Mike came over toward us and we paralleled him for about fifteen minutes with Mount Baker as a backdrop. He even did a breach in front of the mountain. Soon the orcas all seemed to be grouping up together as they started swimming toward East Point. At that point it was time to say goodbye. On our way back to the dock we had several opportunities to look at harbor seals and bald eagles at Clark Island, and Guemes Island. We also spotted a few groups of harbor porpoises along the way. It was a great day on the water. Naturalist Bart Rulon
