9:30 Trip
We found harbor porpoise in Guemes Channel and Rosario Strait. At the south end of Colville Island, there were lots of harbor seals hauled out on the rocks. From there, we headed west in search of whales. We almost made it to Canada. We searched and searched, scouring the shallow banks in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. We made our way back to the south end of Lopez Island. This time we found a bald eagle's nest and at least three bald eagles! There was one in the nest, one in another tree and one was soaring high in they sky. We also got up close and personal with a harbor seal that was hauled out next to some purple sea stars. We continued to look south trying to find the whales. As we made our way back up Rosario Strait, we had lots of harbor porpoise surrounding the boat. Captain Carl found us a California sea lion in the water; it didn't take long before he popped back down. But lucky for us, there was another California sea lion hauled out on the channel marker in Guemes Channel! We got some great looks at him. Unfortunately, the morning trip didn't find any whales. But no worries, because our customers get to come back out with us for free until they do see a whale!
