A Whole Lot of Eagles

Today was filled with a little liquid sunshine and some amazing sun breaks and with an incredible rainbow over Rosario Strait. Unfortunately there were no whales to be seen. However we had some exciting and amazing looks at several Stellar Sealions. We were in Speiden channel where we were surrounded by hunting Stellar sealions. Several surfaced with large salmon clutched in their jaws. They trashed about at the surface to ward off the swarming gulls and to kill their prey. Then down the hatch the fish went. They were wonderful to watch today. We had Moufant sheep and Fallow and Sika deer on Spieden Island, these are all exotic species from Europe and East Asia. The bald eagles were in abundance today as well. I lost count after 10. There were several mated pairs (eagles mate for life) and one of the mated pairs were perch in their nest. We also saw mew gulls, rhinoceros aucklets, common murres, cormorants, harbor seals, and harbor porpoise today. Our guest recieved fluke passes to join us again for another amazing adventure! -Naturalist Jami Nagel

Beautiful Day on the Water!

We left Anacortes under blue skies that continued the entire day. We found bald eagles in the trees on Guemes Island, harbor seals hauled out on some rocks, Steller sea lions in San Juan Channel and on Whale Rocks. We searched for the whales, but with no luck. The whales were nowhere to be found today. All of our passengers enjoyed a spectacular day on the water and get to come back with us for free until they see a whale!
