"Not a cloud in the sky and summer temperatures still lingering we departed from Anacortes to see what the brilliant day would have in store for us. At the south end of Rosario Strait Captain Carl spotted a huge exhalation belonging to a Humpback Whale!! The first of the 2009 season (for me) and right in our back yard! We were overjoyed by the surprise. The huge cetacean swam shallow between his short respiration's allowing us to watch its footprints created by the swash of its flukes below the water. Finally after a lot of short breaths we saw a severe bend in its back which produced a beautiful sounding dive exposing its huge tail! Saying our goodbyes we continued on deeper into the Strait of Juan de Fuca where we found Orcas! Mega and his youngest sister Calypso milled about near Salmon Bank. Calypso displayed her strength and agility as she came out of the water to her naval tail first! The biggest headstand I've seen to date! With more whales moving towards Hein Bank we decided to move with them further off shore. This brought us time with Baba, Ballena and young Crewser who surprised us all with a nice breach- catching us all off guard! With ended our time with the Orcas with a visit with Raggedy and Cappuccino. On our way back towards home we found a Minke Whale! TRIPLE HEADER!! Seeing 3 different species of whales doesn't happen that often and really made for an incredible trip!" - Naturalist Kate Janes

My husband and I were thrilled to be along on this trip. Out from the east coast and taking a break from all my entertainment gigs and show obligations it was a fantastic opportunity for me! Thanks!
