Transient Orca Whales Sighted!

Evidence of the kill just behind the whale

Celebration
Our guests aboard the Island Explorer 3 are seeing transient orcas today! Stay tuned for more information from Naturalist Jami Nagel! "We found ourselves just across Rosario Strait from Anacortes. We had 4 transient (mammal eating) orcas in Thatcher Pass. After coming on scene we soon discovered they had just made a kill when the footprints of one of the whale boiled up red! They then began to celebrate their kill with a half a dozen breaches and a cartwheel. We also saw harbor seals (safely hauled out on the rocks), harbor porpoise, cormorants, and pigeon guillemots." -Naturalist Jami Nagel
