"Our quest to find Orcas lead us towards Canadian waters as we neared Point Roberts we began to see not only their black dorsal fins but also their exhalations! Our visit today consisted of members of L pod. We first came across Baba (L26), her daughter Bellena (L90), and grand calf Crewser (L92). Mixed in with this family was Grace (L2). Searching to see if her offspring were nearby and I couldn't find them. We enjoyed watching the foursome cruise through the water, then without warning two of them flipped over and began side-by-side upside down taillobes! They rolled and played and pec slapped, then began their travelling pattern once again. Moments later after a quick direction change from Grace, who came off our stern we found her youngsters coming to meet her. Both sons, Gaia (L78) & Wave Walker (L88) came off our starboard side showing off their growing dorsal fins! Our time with the amazing Orcas ended with a phenomenal visit with Surprise (L86) & her two calves Pooka (L106) and the newest member of L pod little L112. The two calves rolled, taillobed, spyhopped and swam along our port side. All the while it seemed they were showing off just what they could do- even as babies!" - Naturalist Kate Janes
