AM: "Our morning started out on the right foot as we found two Minke Whales at the south end of Lopez Island feeding near Lawson Reef. After a few great looks we continued towards Haro Strait where we found members of L pod milling about both near & off shore! In the mix we visited with Spirit (L22), Skana (L79), Solstice (L89), Matia (L77), Grace (L2), and her sons Gaia (L78) & Wave Walker (L88). After some amazing looks at this incredible cetaceans we made our way back towards Anacortes where we found a third Minke Whale feeding near a huge amount of birds congregated at the surface!"

PM: "Perfect glass calm conditions, great lighting and LOTS of whales made for an exceptional trip! We found the Orcas of the Southern Resident Community all grouped up in Haro Strait heading northbound! All 3 pods were present putting over 80 whales in a 2 1/2 mile range! At one point you couldn't look without seeing at least 20 dorsal fins! We enjoyed our time with these magical creatures as they showed off just how athleticism! Spyhops, cartwheels, breaches, tailobes, bellyrolls as well as some porpoising were exhibited as they continued moving north- having fun all the while! We were able to visit with some of the islands celebrities- Ruffles (J1), his mom Granny (J2) and even my "Orca boyfriend", Blackberry (J27). We are all guilty of having favorites out in these waters! However, they all have a piece of our hearts." - Naturalist Kate Janes
